The Town of Elon currently has 2 parks that are open for use. Named after two distinguished citizens, Beth Schmidt and Lawrence Slade, the parks offer facility rentals, free events, and many community programs year-round. Beth Schmidt served the Town of Elon for over thirty-years in various capacities, including Town Manager and Mayor. Lawrence Slade, was one of the longest serving Aldermen in Elon history, serving 20 years before his retirement in 2011. Beth Schmidt Park is located off of University Drive and is convenient to both Burlington and Gibsonville. Lawrence Slade Park known as our 'Hidden Gem" is in the heart of Elon five minutes from our downtown restaurants and shops.

Beth Schmidt Park opened in 2005 and was the town’s first recreational facility. It has one of the largest playground in the area, with most components being special-needs accessible. This fenced-in playground provides safe play for children 2-12 years old under adult supervision. Other amenities include a Community Center, picnic shelters, garden and gazebos available for reservation year-round with restroom access, and a one-mile loop walking trail and new to the park is a 9-hole Ace Place Disc Golf Course.

Morgan Place Park was purchased from Alamance County in 2008 and renamed Lawrence Slade Park at Morgan Place (Slade Park) in 2012. Slade Park received a complete renovation in 2014 and offers the collegiate size Frank Haith, Jr. outdoor basketball court, amphitheater, picnic shelters with nearby restrooms, bocce ball courts, corn hole courts, walking track, playground for ages 2-12 to enjoy with adult supervision, musical playground & a new Riders Playground for bikes, trikes & non-motorized scooters.

In 2019, the Recreation and Parks Department undertook a Recreation & Parks Master Planning project. Check out the Recreation & Parks Master Plan here.
